Character Analysis - 3784

Posted by cindy on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 , LABELS: | comments (0)

film: "Psycho"
director: Alfred Hitchcock
character: Marion Crane

Marion seems to be an ordinary woman, although when she has the opportunity she becomes a thief, stealing one of her boss' client's money and escaping.
From that on, Marion seems to be in a constant battle with herself, which shows her double-side throughout the film.
The mis-en-scene helps the viewers to see her double-sidedness:
- once she wears a white bra, and another time she appears wearing a black one
- her reflection in mirrors
- her attitude, being nervous after the theft, especially talking to police

Her own battle ends when she decides to come back and return the money, do the right thing. Although she finds her end at the Bates Motel without the chance of making up for her previous mistake.
