The Shawshank Redemption

Narrative:
In 1947, Young banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover, He is sentenced to two consecutive life sentences at Shawshank State Penitentiary in Maine. The first few years Andy had nothing to do, but because of his banking talent. He mad the Captain of the guards called Byron Hadley (Clancy Brown) gets his brother’s bequest with free tax. And the purpose of Andy is just some beer for his best friends in the prison. It seems that Andy become famous in the Shawahank prison. After this he helped all the guards fix the tax problems. And also he met his best friend of life called Red (Morgan Freeman). The warden called Norton wants to wash his dirt money by using Andy’s talent. He helped Andy rebuild the library and other things but Andy becomes his slave to work with him all the time.

In 1965, a young punk called Tommy Williams (Gil Bellow) robbery charges,
This lovely kid joins Andy and Red’s circle of friends. Andy also helped him pass the high school diploma. Interestingly, when Tommy heard Andy’s story
About murdering his wife, he said Andy is innocent. Because of that he met the crazy guy who murdered Andy’s wife and her lovers in another prison before. This crazy guy was a thief; the purpose of killing those two people is just for fan. Andy wants the warden to help him; it is Andy’s free back. But the Warden needs Andy to work with the dirt money and also Andy knows all the bad things he did. Hence, he made a story of Tommy’s prison break. And the guard kills Tommy. Andy was so sad and he decided to leave. He escaped the prison with the big hole in his room which he dug in last 19 years. Before he leaves, he told Red the place he would go, and finally, Andy and Red met each other in Mexico. And the Warden killed himself in the prison, because Andy send all the file about the dirty money to the newspaper office.

Themes
It seems that The Shawshank Redemption is just a film about prison break. But the main purpose of this film is telling people that “hope” is the best thing in human life, whatever how bad is your life. The Shawshank Redemption is an allegory for maintaining one's feeling of self worth when placed in a hopeless position. The integrity of Andy Dufresne is an important theme in the story line, especially in prison, where integrity is lacking.






MISE-EN-SCENE:
The Shawshank Redemption, released in 1994, was the best drama film directed by Frank Darabont. This film is 140 minutes long with English Language. Tim Robins and morgon Freeman make the film in a very high level. It is a good way to tell the main purpose by using this kind of story. Frank use Andy’s sad story to show the good things in life. The Shawshank Redemption received a limited released on September 23, 1994, and made over $727,000 on 33 screens in its first weekend. It received a wide release on October 7, 1994.

Sound and Diegesis
The music of this movie is very good too. The music used to convey and mood. The majority of the score consists of dark piano music, which plays along the main character's role at Shawshank.
