Overview

Bob Harris is an American former film actor, he meet Charlotte when his work in the Japan. Charlotte is young wife come Japan follow her husband. I chose the scene is happened in Charlotte husband out of Tokyo on business, stay she in hotel. Then met Bob in corridor.

Duration: 1 minute, 00:41:01-00:42:01

Mise-en –scene

This scene was set in the hotel. It is has three settings. [00:41:01-00:41:22]: Charlotte curl body sitting on the window in the room and looked out the window. Outside the window, we can see the panorama of the Tokyo's prosperity. There are some magazines beside her foot. [00:41:23-00:41:27]: Charlotte in swimming pool just by herself. There is having a Pyramid pattern of the window that in front of the swimming pool. [00:41:23-00:41:27]: Charlotte and Bob wearing the same bathrobe meet in the corridor bear the swimming pool. There are having many lockers and mirrors behind them.

Colours:

The main colour vision are Blue and white colours in this scene. Among these two colours the blue dominate the sequence. Charlotte's blue t-shirt and their white bathrobes that covered with a faint sorrow and elegant for film. The dark blue colour from outside the glass window of the night that rendering hall.

Sound:

Part one is non-diegetic that just have sad music to show Charlotte's loneliness and grief. Part two is diegetic that underwater sound when she jumped into the poor.

Dialogue:

00:41:28-00:42:01 these dialogues happen in that Charlotte and Bob met in the swimming pool.

B: Hello.

C: Hello.

B: How are you?

C: Good. How are you?

B: It's a cool pool, isn't it?

C: Yeah, it's nice.

C: Get any sleep?

B: Not yet. How about you?

C: No. Not yet.

C: How long you staying for?

B: I'll be in the bar for the rest of the week.

C: Well, that's good.

Bob go to swimming then meet Charlotte just from out of swimming poor. They are seemingly strangeness of dialogue, but many times have laughter in this short a few words of dialogue. Such as giggles, chuckles and laugh. Charlotte giggles when she first saw Bob in this scene. Then her chuckles when she asks him "Get any sleep". Afterwards they both laughs for bob ask her same question. That let me know two person mutual understanding when they meet need not more language. Because of they can see common lonely from each other eyes.

Lighting:

Low key lighting give viewer depressive and mood lose of feelings. There are including use natural light and lamplight.

Character analysis

Character Relationships:

Charlotte and bob are spiritual friends. To charlotte sadness, she feels loneliness for her husband neglected after them newly-married. To Bob sadness, he also has implications for marital life of exhaustion. In the same time they are feels mood lose and could not join in the life of Tokyo. Then these two characters become a friend for loneliness life. They are friendship is purity.

Character movements:

Charlotte's feet beat time when she sitting on the window and looked out the window.

Editing

Editing style:

Part one editing used a few longer sequences to show peaceful feel for audience. Part three editing used many short sequences for two characters talking.

Transitions:

This scene just used regular jump-cuts between every shot.

Cinematography

Shot type:

In this scene part one and part three used medium shot. It used want to shows a character expression and hand movement when people are thinking or talking. Part three used long shot. It's wanted to express the characters whole action and surrounding.

Camera angle:

High angle used in this scene. Part one look down on a character and the Tokyo's panorama out of window. It's want to prominent her lonely and grief.

Camera movement:

Panning and tracking are most of used in this scene. Part one used panning to shoot revolves around Charlotte. And shoot the panorama of the Tokyo from behind character body. It's a view of charlotte's back want to show the dull and boring of this city.

Depth of field:

In this scene used shallow focus of depth of field. It's want to prominent two character every move for viewers.

Deconstructed Meaning:

Charlotte from high angle looked out of window, away from the noisy city. Around all seem to have quieted down. This scene is most to show lonely. Sofia Coppola clearly to show contemporary soul frustrated. And her used shoot technique to traction out lonely and grief from hidden on deep down.
