WEEK 4: CINEMATOGRAPHY & EDITING

**Posted by dr.dray at 7:46 AM

This week, we firstly looked at cinematography in film. The aspects we covered:

1. Shot Types
2. Camera Movement
3. Camera Angle
4. Depth Of Field

Then we looked at the editing in a film, which were:

1. Long Take
2. Montage
3. Low Speed
4. High Speed
5. Reverse Speed
6. Desaturation

We had our first pop quiz for the semester (cough.. only first... meaning there might be more to come...) And then we discussed the film Full Metal Jacket. Which is full of amazing cinematography and clever editing techniques.

Remember: In the exam, when you are asked to name the technique - it means name the EDITING technique.

Next week we are going to have our first assessment briefing, which is probably going to be important for you guys.

Also another thing - If I miss saying this in class, I'll say it now -
VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE MOVIE ANALYSIS POSTS!!!!!

This made me very impressed, even if most of them weren't really analyses, it still shows you guys put effort in your work. Great job everyone.

I'll see you next week! Hope you had a great weekend,

- Dr Dray
